ROLE AND PLACE OF THE CENTRAL AND NORTHWESTERN FEDERAL DISTRICTS IN THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY

The social and economic development of the regions is the indicator of their economic security. One
of the most important tasks of the governing bodies is the monitoring of the economic security of the region
and the district based on economic security criteria expressed through a system of indicators.
The relevance of the issue is due to the fact that in the current economic conditions, characterized by
sanctions between countries, monitoring of the social and economic development of territories, the development and implementation of preventive measures aimed at ensuring economic security of regions, districts and the whole country take center stage. The research aims to study the role and place of federal districts in the social and economic situation of the country using the example of the Central and Northwestern Federal Districts. The rating of regions included in the district data, conducted by the “RIA Rating” Rating Agency using a set of indicators based on the results territorial development for 2011 and 2018, is analyzed. Such indicators as the gross regional product, consolidated budget revenues, inter-budget transfers, average monthly salary, etc. are given, which, according to the author, also characterize the level of the social and economic situation of the territories. As a result of the study, the ranking of federal districts is carried out and their role in the country's economy is shown.
